At the Oscars, Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, who shaved her head because she had alopecia: “Jada, I love you. “GI Jane 2, I can’t wait to see it.” The Rock was a reference to Demi Moore’s 1997 movie.
While Smith was initially laughing at the joke, when he saw Jada Pinkett Smith’s breakdown, he went on stage and slapped Chris Rock. Smith received the best actor Oscar less than an hour later.
Although Smith apologized to the Academy and other nominees during his speech at the award, he did not apologize to Chris until the next day.
