MEPs of the European Parliament approved the document, which stipulates that all phones, tablets and digital cameras sold in EU countries should have a common charging port.
At the General Assembly session of the European Parliament, the regulation change aimed at standardizing different charging ports such as USB-C, Micro USB and Lightning for various electronic devices and reducing electronic waste was discussed.
Devices such as smartphones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, portable video game consoles, speakers will have USB-C charging ports. Thus, a single charger can be used in various electronic devices. Consumers will not have to buy cables and chargers for their new devices.
Small devices such as smart watches, wristbands and health equipment will be exempt from the said USB-C port rule. With this application, it is aimed to reduce electronic waste. After this stage, the EP and the European Council will negotiate the final version of the regulation.
