TEL AVIV reacted strongly to Russia on Monday, calling it an “inexcusable” statement about Nazism and anti-Semitism by its foreign minister, “over the allegation that Adolf Hitler was Jewish.” Immediately after the statement, Israel called the Russian ambassador and stated that the claim in question held the Jews responsible for their own murders in the Holocaust.
At a time when Israel tried to determine a cautious and balanced position between Russia and Ukraine and was in favor of Russia for the security weakness in the Middle East, there was a sharp decline in the relations between the two countries.
Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid made very harsh statements about the war between Ukraine and Russia, and made his strongest reaction to Lavrov’s statement, evaluating it as an “unforgivable, scandalous and terrible historical mistake”.
