Leonardo DiCaprio has criticized the destruction of the Amazon rainforest.
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro verbally responded. DiCaprio Hollywood star spoke on Twitter in a series of posts about the ecological importance and destruction of the Amazon rainforest. The actor and environmentalist also urged the Brazilian public to vote.
“Brazil is home to the Amazon and other ecosystems critical to climate change. What happens out there affects us all, and the voice of youth is key to driving change for a healthy planet,” DiCaprio said in a tweet.
As reported by CNN, Brazil’s incumbent president told a group of supporters about Leonardo DiCaprio’s Twitter posts: “DiCaprio needs to know that it is the head of the World Trade Organization who says that without Brazil’s agriculture industry the world will starve.”
The Brazilian Amazon region is said to have suffered severe damage since Bolsonaro took office in January 2019. It relaxed laws and regulations designed to protect rainforests from deforestation.
