According to reports in the British press, Hamilton and Williams are said to belong to a consortium that wants to buy Chelsea from Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich. The consortium is led by British businessman and billionaire Sir Martin Broughton and is believed to be one of three bidders currently competing for Chelsea.
According to a “Sky” report, both the Formula 1 star and tennis queen have pledged to invest around twelve million euros in a buyout offer for the London club.
Overall, the purchase price of Chelsea FC is said to be equivalent to almost three billion euros.
After the announced withdrawal of Roman Abramovich, who took over the club in 2003, there was initially wild speculation about the future of the six-time English champion.
Sanctions were imposed on Abramovich by the British government after Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine, and continued gaming operations are currently only possible on the basis of a special license.
Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton and 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams have so far not commented on the latest media reports.
